In this age of information, when time seems accelerated, my goal is to slow the viewer down. My work explores the themes of travel, isolation and moments of tranquility through simple sometimes primal subject matter. The rhythmic use of pattern and expressive brushstrokes are intended to give a soothing, comforting quality that I hope reflects the human tendency to find peace or even beauty when faced with struggle or pain. I want the layers in my work-- particularly the deepest ones, which are often barely visible to inspire the viewer to look carefully, and reflect on what else might lie underneath.
